The 57th GOMA Symposium – FUELS 2026

About Symposium

ABOUT GOMA FUELS SYMPOSIUM

The GOMA Fuels Symposium is the biennial event primarily focused on fuels production and usage with the topics that cover trends of global oil industry, refinery technology, production excellence, fuels quality, alternative fuels topics and environmental preservation solutions. This event is organized by the Croatian Society for Fuels and Lubricants – GOMA.

Oil refining industry today is faced with great number of challenges including the changes in global oil market, serious concerns over global warming, flexibility of production with efforts put to gaining excellence and competitiveness. These are all drivers for continuing efforts in refining technology development, process optimization and efficient energy consumption.

The symposium will be a good occasion for industry professionals to participate with the presentations and exchange their achievements, ideas and experience in today’s refining challenges. It is an opportunity to meet in one place with refining experts, engineering companies and legislation representatives to discuss demands for fuels production and usage.

  • Southeast Europe focusing on gradual transition and security of supply

2. Decarbonization

    • CO₂ reduction as a design and investment constraint
    • CCUS mainly in pilot or partial-scale projects
    • Blue hydrogen more realistic than green hydrogen in near term
    • Strong focus on energy efficiency improvements

    3. Digitalization

    • Shift from dashboards to decision-support tools
    • Use of digital twins for operations, energy and emissions
    • AI for blending, optimization, fouling prediction
    • Operator Training Simulators for safety and performance

    4. Operational Flexibility

    • Handling wider feedstock variability
    • Frequent campaign changes and market-driven operations
    • Debottlenecking instead of capacity expansion

    5. Regulatory Landscape
